Quick answer

Stand between the two rows facing the door they lead to. Counting from the statue nearest the door, the left row turns 2, 7 and 7 times; the right row turns 1, 1 and 7 times. The door opens the instant the last statue is correct, with no lever to pull.

Where the puzzle is

The pedestals sit at the bottom of the Crypt, past the spot where you pick up the Bean Gem and before the snake-head door. You cannot reach them early, and you cannot skip the region on the way to the deeper areas.

Six pedestals stand in two rows of three, all empty when you arrive. Five statues can be carried to them — three standing near the pedestals, two beside the mold. The sixth does not exist until you make it.

The sixth statue comes from the mold

The Statue Mold in the Crypt holds up to 16 Clay and produces one statue when you pull the handle. That is the entire source of the sixth statue, and it is why clay matters outside the crafting tree — see the clay page for how the goo piles drop it.

How the pedestals behave

An empty pedestal does nothing when you use it. Walk a statue onto it and the pedestal takes the statue out of your hands, so you never need a second interaction to seat it.

Once seated, the statue stays. You cannot lift it back off, and its angle is written into the save file, which is why an abandoned attempt looks the same after a reload. The only thing left to do at that point is turn it until it matches.

Solution one: the click count

This version comes from reading the pedestal logic in the game files rather than from a recorded playthrough, and two players on the Steam forums describe the same answer in terms of facings. It only works if the statues have not been turned before you start counting.

RowNearest the doorMiddleFarthest
Left2 turns7 turns7 turns
Right1 turn1 turn7 turns

Each interaction rotates a statue one step in a fixed direction, and eight steps make a full circle — which is why 7 is a normal number and 8 never appears. Placement locks a statue to its pedestal; you cannot pick it back up once set.

Solution two: the facing table

If you have already turned something, or you inherited a save mid-puzzle, counting from zero is useless. Use facing instead: treat the closed door as north and compare each statue's current direction against this table.

RowNearest the doorMiddleFarthest
LeftSouthNorth-eastNorth-east
RightNorth-westNorth-westSouth-west

To orient yourself, face the closed door with the female statue at the opposite end behind you. The original thread describes the statues as following the continuing floor line, which is the visual cue the room is built around.

If you already scrambled it

Turn only the statues that disagree with the table, one step at a time, and re-check after each full pass. Because eight turns is a full circle, a statue that looks wrong by one face may simply need seven turns in the only direction the game allows.

Do not reset the puzzle looking for a clean count. There is no reset interaction, and the placed statues and their angles are written into the save file — quitting and reloading restores the mess, not a fresh room.

No lever, no switch, no snake statue

The door opens on its own the moment the last statue matches, and it stays open permanently. The snake statue elsewhere in the crypt is not part of this puzzle, despite the room's snake-head door; nothing in the puzzle logic references it.

The Crypt's own treasure

The region the pedestals sit in holds one treasure of its own: the Crystal Egg, which waits on the Crypt altar rather than in a chest. Picking it up fires its achievement, and it has to go back on that altar if you are completing the set.

Activated, the egg makes you invisible to enemies, which makes it one of the few treasures with a use after collection. The golden chest page explains how the four gems and the six gold pieces divide the return routes.

Sixteen clay, without a wasted trip

Sixteen clay is four goo piles on a good run and eight on a bad one, so plan the trip rather than making it twice. The sewers hold most of the piles, and patch 1.0.50.0 repositioned the prison ones so they are easier to spot.

Clay is contested, though. The Smelter wants five, the Oven five and the Water Pot four, and all three are more useful earlier than a statue. A practical order is smelter, then oven, then mold — the smelter pays for itself in iron rods long before the crypt calls.

Statues break, and replacements cost the same

A statue that hits something or falls can shatter, and the game does not replace it. The two standing beside the mold, and every statue the mold makes, are the fragile ones; each replacement costs another 16 clay, which is why carrying them one at a time beats juggling two on a staircase.

Set a statue on its pedestal before you turn it. A placed statue is safe; one under your arm is one bad jump from a second 16-clay detour.

Quick answers

How many turns does each statue need?

Left row, nearest the door first: 2, 7, 7. Right row: 1, 1, 7. Eight turns is a full circle, so 7 is one step short of a complete turn.

What if I turned them already?

Use the facing table instead of the counts. Closed door is north; left row faces south, north-east, north-east and the right row faces north-west, north-west, south-west.

How do I get the sixth statue?

Cast it at the Statue Mold in the Crypt with 16 Clay, then pull the handle. Five statues can be carried; the sixth cannot.

Is the statue puzzle in the demo?

No. It is full-game content only, which is why demo players never find the pedestals.

Confidence note

The facing table is identical across three independent sources and is the safer of the two methods. The click counts come from file analysis rather than a recorded run, so they hold only on untouched statues. Patch 1.0.51.0 fixed players being thrown into the void near the Temple statue and the Vine Heart — update before you blame the puzzle.
