What the chest actually takes

Six items, and only these six. Moon and Sun Stone Coins are deliberately excluded from the list even though they are also gold-coloured currency, because they belong to a different puzzle in a different room.

The Gold Statue is the one people miss, because it is not in a container that looks like loot. It sits inside one of the many vases in the castle; break the ones you pass and you will not have to come back for it.

Where the chest is

Two community sources place it slightly differently: one says the dining-table level, the other says the Inner Castle chest. Both are describing the same room, so this page uses "Inner Castle, dining-table level" and treats the two as one location.

Finding it is not the hard part. The hard part is arriving with all six items in hand, because two of them sit behind optional routes — the Talisman behind a coin puzzle, the Statue inside scenery.

Golden chest is not the water statue

This is the single most common mix-up, and it produces most of the "my chest is empty" reports. The water statue takes the Sun Stone Coin and the Moon Stone Coin, both placed in the hands of the same statue, and lowering the water reveals a chest elsewhere.

Confusing the two leads players to feed coins into the golden chest, find nothing happens, and conclude the game is broken. Keep them separate: coins go to the water, gold treasures go to the chest, and the two mechanisms never share an input.

Why your chest was empty

An empty chest after lowering the water is not, by itself, proof of a bug. According to a report relayed by NPC Tips, a developer answered a specific empty-chest complaint on the official Discord on 13 October 2026 and described that behaviour as intentional.

That is a second-hand account of a Discord reply, so treat it as the best available explanation rather than gospel. Before filing anything, run these three checks in order:

1. Did the water actually drop? If not, the coins are not both in the same statue.
2. Is this the return chest at all? A chest that accepts gold treasures may simply be somewhere else in the Inner Castle.
3. Were you looking for the three-dish door? That is a separate puzzle with a dining table, three plates and cooked food as its key — not a chest.

If all three check out and the chest is still empty, report it to Raw Fury's support rather than resetting a save.

It is part of the true ending, not a shortcut

The true ending wants 21 of the 22 treasures returned, split across three destinations: eleven go back where they belong, six gold pieces go into the golden chest, and four gems go onto the sanctuary door in the Temple.

So the chest is a prerequisite for finishing the game properly, not an optional collectible stash. Players who skip it can still reach the final area; they cannot complete the return.

The four gems are a different job

The gems do not go in the chest either. Bean Gem comes from the crypt near the statue rooms, Corn Gem sits in a chest behind roots in the bat dining hall side room, Tomato Gem drops from the Giant Spider, and Guarana Gem drops from the Giant Moray Eel.

Bring an axe for the Corn Gem chest specifically. The roots in front of it are not decorative, and the roots page covers the four reasons an axe might refuse to cut them.

The order that saves you a trip

The six items are spread across four regions, and two sit behind optional content, so the route matters more than any individual pickup.

A route that works: take the Castle items first — coins, bracelet, amulet and the statue in a vase — collect the Sewers nugget on any clay run, and leave the Talisman for the trip where you are already doing the coin puzzle in the Marble Ruins. That way no journey exists just to carry one item.

If you are missing exactly one and cannot place it, check the vases. The Gold Statue is the only entry on this list that is not in a container that looks like loot, and it is the one players report hunting longest.

How to know you have all six

The Catalogue (press T) lists every treasure you have found, so the fastest check is to scan that list for the six gold entries instead of trying to remember every room. If exactly one is missing, check the vases first.

Co-op groups have a second gap to close. Treasures picked up by a guest sit in that player's inventory rather than the host's, and since patch 1.0.50.0 the host can pull a lost treasure back from the Catalogue even when it is riding in someone else's backpack.
